A WAY INTO WOOD
Express yourself with a full range of hand tools from large Thor like hammers & axes to carving with fire & water.
About this Event
A weekend workshop led by experienced sculptor James Bond who invites you to celebrate & explore form & beauty in creatively carving with wood.
Artistic adventures are a collection of practical weekend workshops within an aesthetic context.
The first workshop experience is finding your way into wood – destruction and beautying the hell out of it.
This dynamic experience provides an opportunity for you to explore and practically express yourself working with the medium of wood; using large hammers, axes, fire, water and paint.
The wood and the hand tools have thousands of years of subtle evolutionary connections and are able to accommodate our actions. You will be supported in your own exploration of working with shape and form; honing your work to make something of beauty with an opportunity to try out and use many tools dating back hundreds of years.
There is no experience required and anyone of any ability is welcome over the age of 18 yrs. Should you have any specific requirements for participation please let us know and we will endeavour to meet your needs.
We will work together within a HSE policy and a duty of care code of practice that you will be contractually requested to sign, following an initial tool box talk .
An Aesthetic Context
The experiences from this workshop will allow you the space to explore the forces within your character while the shared group experience will support each person to be themselves, nothing more and nothing other.
We will be working in the beautiful grounds of St Katherine’s Priory; a gem in the heart of Exeter. The priory was a Benedictine Nunnery founded in 1159 and dissolved in 1539. The surviving 2 storey building is Grade II listed, with much character, and several original features.
We will start at 10am on Saturday; ending between 10pm and midnight as the fire work will happen throughout the later evening. Lunch and an evening meal will be provided as well as drinks though out the day. There is the option for people to camp should they wish too. Sunday will start at 10am and end at 4pm and lunch and drinks will be provided.
